INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A violent altercation over a small debt ended in tragedy in Indianapolis, with Michael Hendricks, 50, sentenced for the murders of James McGuire and David Doty. The March 28 incident left the community reeling.
Responding to a shooting report on Riley Place, police found Doty critically injured outside a home. He later died at the hospital. Inside, McGuire was found dead.
Witnesses helped police track Hendricks, directing them to his location at a nearby intersection. Officer Tieken confronted Hendricks, who attempted to flee while brandishing a gun. Tieken fired, and Hendricks was hospitalized in stable condition.
Hendricks’ weapon was unloaded, though it had a magazine inserted. No officers or bystanders were harmed.
In August, Hendricks admitted to the killings, citing a dispute over $40. He was sentenced to 90 years in prison.
The case highlights the devastating effects of violence and the importance of community-police cooperation. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department continues efforts to maintain safety and build trust within the community.
Families of the victims are left grappling with their loss, as the community seeks to heal from the senseless violence.
