SPRING HILL, Fla. – A man in Spring Hill, Florida is facing serious charges after Hernando County deputies discovered a disturbing scene while conducting a well-being check. Dustin McMillan, 33, has been charged with first-degree murder and tampering with evidence for his involvement in the killing of one man and the subsequent suicide of another.
The deputies were called to a home on Elkin Avenue in Spring Hill after a family member reported that Dakota Lee Croft had possibly killed William Scott Trudell. Upon arrival, they were initially denied entry by McMillan, who eventually allowed them inside but claimed that Croft was not home. However, another deputy found Croft dead and hanging from a tree in the backyard, while Trudell’s body was found in a nearby wooded area with drag marks leading from the home.
McMillan confessed to deputies that he and Croft had planned and carried out the attack on Trudell, allegedly due to Trudell being a “Cop Caller” and “disrespecting women in the home.” The details of how Trudell was killed were not disclosed in the news release.
It was also revealed that Croft was under the supervision of the Florida Department of Corrections and had recently removed his ankle monitor, which was found in the backyard.
