Chicago — Two individuals were injured in a drive-by shooting early Sunday morning at what appears to be a homeless encampment on the Northwest Side. Authorities reported that the incident occurred around 3:20 a.m. in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, specifically near the intersection of North Sacramento Boulevard and West Chicago Avenue.
According to police, a person inside a black SUV approached the victims and opened fire. A 59-year-old man, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg, was transported to Stroger Hospital where he is currently listed in stable condition. The second victim, a female whose age remains unspecified, was shot in the shoulder and is receiving treatment in critical condition.
Following the shooting, the assailant fled eastbound on Chicago Avenue in the vehicle. As of now, no suspects are in custody, and detectives from Area Three are actively investigating the case.
