EDMONDS, Wash. — A violent confrontation at a local massage parlor led to the arrest of a 48-year-old man for attempted murder on Sunday evening. The incident unfolded at Eva Spa Massage around 5:45 p.m., where the suspect, previously known to the spa, forced his way in and launched an aggressive attack on two employees.
According to officials, the suspect was recognized by one of the employees as he approached the spa. Surveillance footage revealed that he entered the establishment, locked the door behind him, and proceeded to assault an employee who attempted to retreat. The confrontation escalated as the suspect attacked both employees using a metal coat rack. Edmonds Police Commander Josh McClure stated, “He violently assaulted two employees that were there. A customer who was receiving a massage at the time managed to escape.”
Despite the injuries, both employees attempted to flee but were pursued by the assailant, who continued the attack before leaving the scene. Upon police arrival, officers discovered the victims unconscious and in need of immediate medical attention. They were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment of lacerations and facial injuries.
Witnesses reported that the suspect fled across the street and was located in a nearby parking lot. Officers found him wearing gloves stained with blood and apprehended him without resistance. During the arrest, he reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with his actions, stating he was upset he hadn’t killed the victims. Court documents indicate that he acknowledged his intent but claimed he was unable to complete the act. However, a knife was discovered in his pocket during a search conducted by officers.
The customer present during the attack confirmed to investigators that the suspect made statements indicating the assault appeared to be premeditated. Fortunately, that individual was unharmed.
The suspect, an Edmonds resident in his late 40s, has since been booked into the Snohomish County Jail. He declined to attend his initial court hearing on Monday, where a judge set bail at $1 million. A subsequent court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the attack and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
