Kaiama, Nigeria — Following a devastating bandit attack that resulted in the deaths of more than 160 residents, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has dispatched a response team to the affected communities of Woro and Nuku in Kwara State. This swift action comes in light of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to provide immediate relief for survivors.
On Thursday, President Tinubu received a briefing from Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, which spurred the administration to mobilize resources for those impacted by the violence. The President emphasized the need for urgent assistance to address the severe ramifications of the attack, which left families grieving and communities shattered.
In addition to NEMA’s efforts, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has ordered the prompt deployment of tactical and intelligence units to enhance security in the region. The police force has publicly condemned the attack, which occurred on Tuesday, calling it a cowardly act that must not go unpunished.
Mrs. Zubaida Umar, the Director-General of NEMA, announced that personnel from the Minna Operations Office will temporarily relocate to the affected areas. Their primary objective will be to conduct a thorough assessment of the situation. This evaluation aims to determine the immediate needs of the communities in collaboration with the Kwara State Emergency Management Agency and local security forces.
NEMA has already put relief materials in place, including both food and non-food supplies, to assist those who have suffered from the recent violence. The agency is focused on ensuring an effective response that is well-coordinated and responsive to the community’s needs.
Expressing deep sympathy for the victims, the Director-General reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to supporting the affected populations. She described the incident as tragic and expressed hope for a quick recovery for those impacted.
