SWATARA TOWNSHIP, Pa. – An explosion and house fire in Swatara Township, Dauphin County, sent one person to the hospital on Monday morning. Emergency crews responded to the incident, which was located on the 600 Block of Garden Drive in Chambers Hill, according to Swatara Fire 91 station.
Fire chief Michael Ibberson reported that crews were called to the scene shortly before 10 a.m. One person inside the home was taken to the hospital for burns, and their condition is currently unknown. Unsafe conditions forced firefighters to temporarily leave the building at one point during the response.
Neighbors in the area mentioned hearing what sounded like an explosion or a loud boom, and also reported a power outage lasting several hours, which was later restored last night.
The cause of the explosion and fire is still under investigation, but according to the fire chief, propane is likely to have played a role. However, the specific use of the propane has not yet been determined.
