Explosion at Firecracker Factory Kills Three in Belthangady, Karnataka; Two Arrested

Bengaluru, Karnataka – An explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Belthangady, Karnataka, claimed the lives of three individuals and left six others injured. Among the deceased were two Malayalis, Varghese (58) and Swamy (55), both from Thrissur, and Chetan (25) from Hassan. The explosion occurred at a unit set up on a farm owned by Malappuram native Basheer. Two individuals, including Basheer, have been taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The tragic event took place around 5 pm on Sunday, with nine people present at the time of the explosion. The impact of the blast was felt as far as 4 km, according to reports from the area. The Belthangady fire brigade carried out the rescue operation in response to the incident.

In addition to the fatalities, six individuals, including one Malayali, sustained injuries in the explosion. The injured were promptly given medical attention and are currently receiving treatment for their wounds.

The explosion has raised concerns about safety regulations and measures in place at firecracker manufacturing units across the region. Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the explosion and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
