COLORAD SPRINGS, CO – The city of Colorado Springs was rattled by a small explosion near downtown, captured on video by local news station KOAA-TV. Police suspect that the individual arrested in connection with the explosion may also be linked to similar incidents in the area.
The blast occurred on the night of January 12th on Costilla Street downtown, leading to a subsequent arrest by the police. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the explosion did damage windows at a neighboring business.
One business owner, Taylor Preisser from the Even Preisser Construction Company, shared his security camera footage that captured the moment of the explosion. The device, described as a ‘balloon device’, was seen floating around the back area of the shop before it exploded after getting hooked on razor wire.
According to Caitlin Ford, a CSPD Public Communications Specialist, the police handed over the investigation to the regional explosives team after their initial response to the scene. The investigation led to the arrest of 69-year-old Edward Kiley, who was charged with the use of an explosive device. Kiley’s arrest is not his first brush with the law, as he previously faced similar charges in 2011 and 2018.
The police are now seeking the public’s help in identifying any other incidents where Kiley may be involved. They believe there may be a connection to additional recent incidents and are urging the public to come forward with any information.
Kiley was arrested at his residence in the 700-block of East Vermijo Avenue and has since been released on bond. The investigation continues as the authorities work to determine the extent of Kiley’s involvement in the recent incidents in the area.
