Fatal Parkway Drag Race Sparks Fury as Driver and Mother Attempt to Evade Justice

WOODBRIDGE, N.J. — A tragic drag racing incident on the Garden State Parkway has resulted in the death of a 20-year-old man and has prompted severe backlash against the alleged driver and his mother, accused of aiding in his flight from justice. Alvi Limani, 20, was behind the wheel of a BMW X3 that collided with two other vehicles during a high-speed race on June 29, leaving Albion Hysenaj dead and another passenger injured.

Authorities report that Limani and another racer, driving a BMW M5, were racing southbound when the collision occurred shortly after 7 p.m. The impact caused Limani’s SUV to roll over multiple times, ejecting both Hysenaj and a 21-year-old companion from Staten Island. Emergency responders rushed Hysenaj to Robert Wood Johnson University Medical Center in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead.

Following the crash, Limani fled the scene and reportedly made his way to Florida, where he allegedly received assistance from his mother, Vilma Vneshta. On July 17, the pair was apprehended in Miami and later extradited back to New Jersey to face charges related to the incident.

In a related development, tensions escalated at a Pleasantville Dollar General on Wednesday morning when 19-year-old Javont Bell-Lowe threatened shoppers. Eyewitnesses were uncertain about whether he was armed, leading to an immediate police response. When authorities arrived, Bell-Lowe exited the store; however, a stolen firearm containing illegal hollow-point ammunition was subsequently discovered by a police K-9 unit.

More than 20 state legislators, including both Republicans and Democrats, have expressed their discontent with the Department of Labor’s plan, which resembles a controversial overhaul in California. Lawmakers have officially voiced their concerns to Labor Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo.

In another community issue, Freehold Borough Fire Chief Michael Wilson was charged with simple assault and subsequently suspended by the borough council following his arrest for an alleged domestic violence incident. The specifics of the assault have not been released to protect any potential victims involved.

In Hunterdon County, police are under scrutiny following the tragic deaths of Lauren Semanchik and her boyfriend Tyler Webb, who were found dead after a shooting incident on August 1. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and screams, prompting multiple 911 calls. Despite police arriving on the scene, an investigation did not lead to immediate action, and the suspected gunman fled, later taking his own life.

As various incidents unfold across New Jersey, concerns remain not only about public safety but also about the adequacy of local law enforcement responses. The state continues to grapple with challenges related to crime and community relations, underscoring the urgent need for changes in both policy and practice to ensure justice and safety for its residents.
