Father Captured Following Gunpoint Abduction of Daughter from Mother

MEMPHIS, TN – A tense morning in Memphis concluded with the safe return of a five-month-old girl, taken by her father during a domestic conflict. The dramatic incident began before dawn in the 3600 block of Nearly Road.

The child’s father, Robert Avant, was implicated in a fiery dispute involving the infant’s mother and others, possibly relatives or friends. As the argument intensified, Avant allegedly drew a gun, threatening those who tried to intervene.

Following the confrontation, Avant left with the child. Concerned parties tracked him to a nearby street, where he reportedly threatened them with a pink handgun. Police are actively seeking more information from witnesses to clarify the night’s events.

The search ended successfully around 5 a.m. when officers located Avant and his daughter, Ammani, in an unfinished house on Southland Drive, not far from the original scene.

There are no charges against Avant at this time, but the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are diligently working to gather all necessary evidence.

The Memphis Fire Department confirmed the infant’s health before reuniting her with her relieved mother, marking a positive end to a potentially dangerous situation.

This case highlights the urgent need for effective police response in domestic emergencies and the potential risks inherent in such disputes.
