Farmington Hills, Mich. — A 31-year-old man has decided to forgo a legal challenge in connection with the homicide charges stemming from the fatal shooting of his brother in May 2024. In a recent court appearance, Fredrick Delano Logan entered a no contest plea to several charges, including second-degree homicide, which is regarded as a serious offense.
The tragic incident occurred on May 25, when 28-year-old Ricky Williams was shot during a dispute between the siblings at an apartment complex located on Saratoga Circle, not far from the intersections of 11 Mile and Halstead roads. The argument escalated, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting.
On the day of the incident, law enforcement was alerted after the mother of the two men called 911 to report the escalating situation. Authorities reported that despite Logan fleeing the scene, he was apprehended the following day in Warren, aided by local police.
After being transported to a nearby hospital, Williams succumbed to his injuries. In light of Logan’s plea, he faces sentencing set for February 24, with Judge Jacob Cunningham presiding over the case.
A no contest plea allows the court to treat the defendant as if he had pleaded guilty for the purpose of sentencing, while also providing some level of protection against civil liability. This legal maneuver can serve as a strategic decision for defendants in similar circumstances.
Logan’s criminal history includes a prior conviction in 2015 for attempted larceny in a building, for which he was sentenced to two years in prison.
