Florida Man Arrested for Involvement in Fatal Crash Killing FHP Trooper and Semi-Truck Driver

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. — A 30-year-old man from Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida, was arrested on Friday for his involvement in a tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper and the driver of a semi-truck. Michael Anthony Addison is facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and felony homicide, after fleeing from the trooper and causing a devastating crash on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County.

The FHP reported that Trooper Zachary Fink was pursuing Addison, who was driving a white Kia in a reckless manner and speeding on I-95 early Friday morning. Unfortunately, the pursuit took a fatal turn when Addison made an abrupt turn to travel the wrong direction on the interstate. Trooper Fink, in an attempt to apprehend Addison and warn other motorists of the danger, turned with the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a semi-truck, which tragically claimed the lives of both Fink and the semi-truck driver.

Furthermore, Addison’s reckless drive didn’t end with the crash. After the collision, the Kia crashed into a tree less than two miles away. Addison then attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended around 8 a.m.

In addition to the charges from the FHP, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office also charged Addison with fleeing to elude police and an out-of-county warrant from Broward County Sheriff’s Office on aggravated battery. As a result, Addison was booked into St. Lucie County Jail without bond.

This devastating incident serves as a tragic reminder of the dangers and potential consequences of reckless driving. It has not only resulted in the loss of two lives but has also led to the arrest and legal actions against the individual responsible. The community mourns the loss of Trooper Fink and the semi-truck driver, while the legal process will seek to hold Addison accountable for his actions.
