Former Husband of Columbus Couple Found Dead Arrested on Murder Charges: Investigation Unfolds

Columbus, Ohio — Monique Tepe and her husband, Spencer, were found dead in their home on December 30, a shocking event that has left family and friends grappling with their loss. The couple, both in their 30s, were remembered during a joint memorial service, described by loved ones as sharing “a beautiful, strong and deeply happy relationship.”

Nearly a decade after her divorce from physician Michael David McKee, he was arrested in Illinois and charged with two counts of murder related to the couple’s deaths. Authorities have scheduled a court appearance for McKee in Winnebago County on Monday afternoon, according to local law enforcement.

First responders discovered the bodies after colleagues of Spencer, a well-respected dentist, called 911 when he failed to arrive for work. Upon investigations, police found the couple’s two young children, aged 4 and 1, unharmed in the home located just north of downtown Columbus.

Michael McKee, currently 39, obtained his medical degree from Ohio State University and has been practicing as a vascular surgeon in both California and Illinois. Most recently, he worked at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford, Illinois. The hospital released a statement confirming its cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation.

McKee’s previous marriage to Monique Tepe began in August 2015. Their divorce, finalized in June 2017, reportedly occurred without major conflicts, and there were no children from the union. The couple had separated prior to the divorce filing, with McKee residing in Virginia during his medical residency.

Columbus police recently released surveillance footage showing a person near the couple’s home around the estimated time of the killings. While authorities have not confirmed whether McKee is depicted in the video, the footage is believed to be critical to the investigation. Detectives linked McKee to a vehicle identified in the vicinity just before and after the incident.

McKee was taken into custody in Rockford without incident on Saturday. He is currently being held in Winnebago County and will likely face extradition to Ohio to answer the murder charges. The legal proceedings surrounding this case are expected to unfold swiftly as investigators seek clarity on the motivations behind these tragic events.

As the community mourns the loss of Monique and Spencer, questions remain about the circumstances of the crime and the man now accused of it. The investigation continues to draw attention as authorities and the public seek answers.
