NORTHEAST DELHI, India — Police have apprehended four suspects in connection with two murders that occurred on the night of August 10, involving relatives in a disturbing case of violence linked to a financial dispute.
Authorities report that the incidents began when Raji Ahmed, 33, reportedly hired the men with the intention of intimidating his brother-in-law, Shami Alam, into repaying a ₹2 lakh loan. The hired individuals, identified as Mohammad Faizaan, 22; Mohammad Masoom, 25; Mohammad Ashfaq, 19; and Vicky Tomar, 24, allegedly went beyond intimidation and killed Alam during the confrontation in a rented room in New Chauhanpur. The victim, an e-rickshaw driver, was targeted due to his failure to repay the borrowed sum.
According to police statements, the group acted in panic after Alam’s death, believing that he might implicate them in the attack. In a bid to eliminate potential witnesses, they subsequently murdered Ahmed the same night. After luring him to an open area under the pretense of drinking together, the situation escalated into violence when Ahmed threatened to report them.
A senior police official stated that tensions erupted, culminating in multiple stab wounds that claimed Ahmed’s life. The shocking sequence of events unfolded when officers received a report early on August 11 about a man found injured in Khajuri Khas. When police arrived at the scene, they transported the victim to a local hospital, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
By August 12, police were alerted by a landlord to a potential crime scene after neighbors noticed blood seeping from a locked room. Upon investigation, they discovered the body of Raji Ahmed, who had been missing since the previous night. The landlord disclosed that Ahmed was a tenant and also provided key information that led officers to review surveillance footage.
The subsequent analysis of CCTV images revealed that the same group was present at both crime scenes, solidifying connections between the suspects and the murders. Following this crucial evidence, law enforcement moved quickly to arrest the accused.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashish Mishra emphasized the swift response by local authorities and the dedication of the investigative team, highlighting the complexity of crimes intertwined with personal relations. The case illustrates the often dangerous intersections of financial disputes and familial ties that can lead to tragic outcomes.
