Rocky Mount, N.C. — Authorities have taken into custody a fourth individual linked to the deaths of two young men, a week after the tragic incident shocked the community. The Rocky Mount Police Department announced the arrest of 19-year-old Keyvonte Keysahwn Tyson, who now faces charges of first-degree murder.
Tyson is suspected of involvement in the deaths of 19-year-old Ryo Steele and 20-year-old La’Ren Dickens, whose bodies were discovered on July 13 at Martin Luther King Park. This incident occurred during a weekend marked by multiple shootings across the city; however, police have asserted that the cases are unrelated.
The fatalities occurred at the scene, leaving the community grappling with the senseless violence. Previously, law enforcement officials charged 22-year-old Devonte Dales in Steele’s murder. Additionally, two more suspects—27-year-old Bernard Smith and 70-year-old Trevion Scarboro—face charges in connection with Dickens’ death.
Authorities have detained Tyson at the Edgecombe County Jail without bond as the investigation continues. The Rocky Mount Police Department has indicated that they are actively pursuing leads and gathering evidence related to the case.
Community leaders have expressed their concern about escalating violence in the area, urging residents to come forward with any information that may assist in resolving these cases. The grim events of the past week have left many residents wary and seeking answers about safety in their neighborhoods.
As the investigation develops, police are calling for anyone with potential insights into the incidents to contact local authorities. The department hopes that increased vigilance and community engagement will help stem further violence in the wake of this devastating loss.
