GNCCI Strongly Denounces Attack on Electrochem’s Ada Facility, Calls for Stronger Security Measures

Accra, Ghana — The Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI) expressed its strong disapproval following a violent incident at the Ada facility of Electrochem Ghana Limited. On January 9, 2025, the company was subjected to an attack by armed assailants who inflicted substantial damage, stole products, and left several employees wounded. The GNCCI, a staunch advocate for business safety and industry stability, has voiced its concerns over the rising tensions that threaten both local and foreign investment in the region.

Stephane Miezan, President of GNCCI, issued a statement denouncing the attack as a direct threat to the foundation of Ghana’s business climate. “Such acts of violence are unequivocally unacceptable and pose severe risks to the safety and security of workers and enterprises alike,” Miezan stated. The chamber has called on the government and relevant security agencies to promptly and effectively respond by capturing and prosecuting those responsible.

As part of its response, the GNCCI is pressing for improved security protocols nationwide to ensure that businesses can operate in a secure and conducive environment. The organization highlighted the need for a peaceful and stable business landscape to foster confidence among investors and promote economic growth.

This incident comes at a time when Ghana is striving to bolster its image as a secure and inviting destination for business investments. The chamber underscored the detrimental impact such violent episodes could have on the country’s economic development and international reputation. Ensuring the safety of business ventures, according to GNCCI, supports not only the immediate environments in which companies operate but also the broader national interest.

Reiterating its commitment under legislative instruments, such as LI 611 of 1968 and Act 232, GNCCI is dedicated to both promoting and safeguarding the interests of the private sector within Ghana. The organization also aligned its initiatives with the aspirations voiced by President John Dramani Mahama during his inaugural address on December 7, 2025, emphasizing a shared vision for a harmonious business environment.

Moreover, the chamber emphasized the importance of dialogue and collaboration among all stakeholders to address and resolve conflicts peacefully and legally. Such interactions are crucial for maintaining the continuity of advancements made by businesses and mitigating the negative influences on Ghana’s economic landscape.

The GNCCI, representing a broad spectrum of private sector enterprises, remains steadfast in its mission to advocate for the robust protection and prosperity of businesses throughout the country. “We implore all parties, including state and security apparatus, to unite in cultivating a dependable atmosphere conducive to unimpeded business operations,” the statement concluded.

This commitment to security and stability is seen as essential not only for the well-being of the current enterprises but also in attracting future investments, essential for the continued socioeconomic development of Ghana.
