GRAPEVINE, TX – Authorities are on the hunt for a jet ski operator believed to be responsible for a tragic accident that claimed the life of 18-year-old Ava Moore at Grapevine Lake. Moore, who had recently completed her studies at the Air Force Academy in Colorado and was preparing to embark on basic training, was kayaking when she was struck by a jet ski on Sunday.
The incident has left her friends and family mourning the loss of a promising young woman with aspirations of becoming a top-ranking military officer. Her basketball coach, Keisha Blanton, described Moore as someone who was destined for greatness, noting her ambition to one day become a four-star general and her ability to positively influence those around her.
After the collision, the jet ski driver fled the scene, leaving Moore with severe injuries. Despite being rushed to a hospital, she succumbed to her injuries later that night. The Texas Game Wardens have released an image of the suspect, a woman who reportedly left the area with a male companion. In their haste, they allegedly caused another hit-and-run accident as they departed the lake.
Grapevine Police are now investigating both incidents. Coach Blanton, reflecting on the loss, expressed a mix of sadness and anger, lamenting the actions of the individual who failed to assist Moore after the accident. The coach shared a heartfelt memory of a FaceTime call with Moore the day before the incident, where they exchanged words of love and encouragement.
A passenger on the jet ski, who remained at the scene, has cooperated with investigators. However, the relationship between the passenger and the suspect remains unclear, as does the ownership of the jet ski involved in the accident. Authorities are continuing their efforts to gather more information and urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward.
Moore’s death has cast a pall over the community, with many remembering her as a beacon of potential and dedication. As the investigation continues, her family and friends are left grappling with unanswered questions and the profound loss of a bright future abruptly cut short.
