Greensboro Men Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder-for-Hire Plot in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. – Four men from Greensboro have been sentenced to life in prison for their involvement in a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the death of a Norfolk resident. The men, Jaquate Simpson, Landis Jackson, Kalub Shipman, and Nelson Evans, were convicted in March 2023 for their roles in the killing of 59-year-old Lillian Bond. Simpson and Jackson were identified as leaders of a criminal organization that distributed cocaine in North Carolina and Hampton Roads.

The motive for the murder was reportedly linked to a drug deal gone wrong. After a Norfolk drug dealer failed to pay $81,000 for a multi-kilogram cocaine delivery, Simpson and Jackson sought revenge. Shipman was recruited to hire Evans to carry out the hit on anyone leaving the house where the drug dealer was located. Tragically, Lillian Bond was shot and killed while taking out the trash on Trice Terrace. It was revealed that the nephew of the victim owed money to Simpson and Jackson.

Lillian Bond had been an employee at the Children’s Hospital for King’s Daughters for nearly 20 years before her untimely death. The case has left a deep impact on the Norfolk community and has raised awareness about the dangers of criminal enterprises operating in the region.

The sentencing of the four men to life in prison serves as a warning to those involved in illegal activities that result in harm to others. The tragic loss of Lillian Bond has highlighted the need for continued efforts to address drug-related crime and its devastating consequences in our communities. The outcome of this case reflects the commitment of law enforcement to hold accountable those who engage in violence and criminal behavior.
