Portland, Oregon – In a recent development, a jury has reached a verdict regarding a tragic incident that occurred during a carjacking in Northeast Portland back in 2020. The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office announced that the jury found a man guilty of the crime.
The incident took place on August 20, 2020, near the Grotto along Northeast Skidmore Street, where Portland police responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered the lifeless body of 66-year-old Thomas Hammond, who had been fatally shot in the incident.
After an investigation, it was revealed that 43-year-old Quentin Blackmon was responsible for the shooting during the carjacking. Blackmon was apprehended and taken into custody on October 2, 2020, where he has remained since. Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, the jury found Blackmon guilty of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree robbery, unlawful use of a weapon with a firearm, unauthorized use of a vehicle, and felon in possession of a firearm.
Additionally, Blackmon faces accusations in a separate murder trial for the death of 33-year-old Michael Epps Jr., who was also fatally shot at the same location as Hammond. This upcoming trial is scheduled to commence in September.
The sentencing for Blackmon is set for May 23, as he awaits his fate for the crimes he has been convicted of by the jury.
