VISTA, Calif. — A violent incident involving two separate assaults has led to the arrest of a 41-year-old man, as authorities investigate alarming events that unfolded Thursday evening. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reported that both incidents are believed to be connected.
The first assault occurred around 8:30 p.m. in the 2200 block of Watson Way, where a victim suffered multiple lacerations but refused medical assistance at the scene. Deputies conducted a search of the area, but initially, they were unable to locate the suspect.
Shortly after, at approximately 11:15 p.m., deputies responded to another emergency call regarding a stabbing in the 600 block of Sycamore Avenue. The second victim sustained serious injuries, with multiple lacerations affecting his head, arms, and hands. Medical personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in serious but stable condition.
As the investigation progressed, deputies discovered a hatchet in the vicinity that is believed to have been used in the second assault. This find led to heightened concern about the perpetrator’s intentions and the potential for further violence in the area.
With information gathered from the scene, law enforcement expanded their search and eventually located Jesse Guzman near the 700 block of Shadowridge Drive. He was taken into custody without any further incident, easing community fears about ongoing safety.
Following his arrest, Guzman was booked at the Vista Detention Facility. He faces several serious charges, including attempted murder, mayhem, dissuading a witness, and assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities remain vigilant as they continue to investigate the violence that has unsettled residents.
