Heroic Bystander Seriously Injured After Trying to Protect Public in North Yorkshire McDonald’s Attack

York, England — A man was seriously injured after intervening in an assault outside a McDonald’s on Blake Street late on December 20. The 46-year-old victim suffered significant injuries, including a broken arm, when he stepped in to help another person during the violent confrontation.

North Yorkshire Police confirmed they are investigating the incident, which occurred around 10:30 p.m. Several youths were involved in the attack, prompting officers to appeal for witnesses. Authorities have since arrested three individuals: an 18-year-old woman, a 16-year-old boy, and a 16-year-old girl. They have been released on police bail as the investigation continues. A 15-year-old girl is also among those arrested and has been released under investigation.

In an effort to gather more information, police released CCTV images of a man they wish to identify. The individual is not considered a suspect but may have filmed the assault. Detective Constable Grant Baker expressed the importance of hearing from anyone present during the altercation.

“We are particularly looking to speak to anyone who might have captured footage on their phones,” Baker said. “The man we wish to identify appeared to be filming the incident and was approached by the youths shortly after.”

Baker clarified that the man is being treated as a witness rather than a suspect, and police encourage him, or anyone else with relevant information, to reach out.

Authorities are specifically asking potential witnesses to come forward if they were in the vicinity during the attack. They can contact the police by calling 101 and asking for Detective Constable Grant Baker or by sending an email to grant.baker@northyorkshire.police.uk.
