In a tragic incident linked to the storm, a 16-year-old girl died, and another remains in critical condition following a sledding accident in Frisco. Authorities report that a 16-year-old boy was driving a Jeep Wrangler while towing the two girls on a sled when the vehicle struck a curb and subsequently collided with a tree. Frisco Police responded to the accident shortly after 2:30 p.m. CST, where they found the injured girls. Both were rushed to the hospital, but sadly, one did not survive.
The winter storm is packing a punch, blanketing regions from Texas to New England with freezing rain and sleet. Forecasts predict up to a foot of snow in cities such as Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The Tennessee Valley Authority reported significant power disruptions in northern Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, and parts of Tennessee due to icy conditions impacting both their transmission lines and local distribution systems.
The authorities are urging caution, particularly in light of the icy surfaces created by the storm. The Frisco Police Department emphasized the danger of outdoor activities in such conditions, advising residents to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

A person succumbed to the cold in Austin, Texas, while a death occurred in Arkansas and two fatalities were reported in Louisiana, bringing the storm’s overall death toll to five.
