VAN NUYS, LOS ANGELES (AP) — A mother’s tearful testimony in a Los Angeles courtroom has shed light on a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two young boys. Nancy Iskander, the mother of the boys, identified Rebecca Grossman as the driver responsible for the fatal accident. Grossman, a Westlake Village socialite, faces charges of murder, vehicular manslaughter, and hit-and-run.
The incident took place on September 29, 2020, when Grossman was driving a white Mercedes after leaving a Mexican restaurant happy hour. Prosecutors allege that she and her then-boyfriend, former Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson, were racing in their respective vehicles. Witnesses testified to seeing and hearing multiple vehicles speeding, with one even describing feeling pushed off the sidewalk by the force of the passing cars.
Iskander, the grieving mother, recounted the harrowing experience of crossing the street with her three sons on wheels when they were allegedly struck by Grossman’s vehicle traveling at a speed of 81 mph in a 45 mph zone. The tragic incident resulted in the death of her 11-year-old son, Mark, and severe injuries to her 8-year-old son, Jacob.
Amidst defense challenges to her testimony, Iskander maintained that the family was walking within the crosswalk at the time of the accident. A witness in the area described her screams as unlike anything they had ever heard before.
The defense has suggested that Grossman’s vehicle may not have been the one involved in the initial impact that led to the boys’ injuries. They are building a case to argue that Erickson was the one who hit the boys, leading to a chain reaction involving Grossman’s SUV.
The tragic incident has left a lasting impact on the community, and the legal proceedings continue to unfold in the courtroom. It remains a heart-wrenching reminder of the potential consequences of reckless driving and the devastation it can bring to innocent lives and families.
