A homeowner is accused of firing multiple rounds after a family used his driveway to turn around.
HOUSTON, Texas — A father and his 13-year-old daughter escaped injury after police said a homeowner fired into their car Tuesday during a dispute over a driveway turnaround in southwest Houston.
Houston police said the shooting occurred about 2 p.m. on Willbriar Lane, in the Houston portion of Fort Bend County. The homeowner, identified as Seth Daigre, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault. Officers said bullets struck the family’s vehicle, including the area where the girl had been sitting.
The family had just left a nearby home when the driver used Daigre’s driveway to turn the car around, according to a woman who identified herself as the girl’s grandmother. She said Daigre came outside and argued with the father and child. The woman said her daughter tried to calm the confrontation, telling him, “It’s not that serious, sir.” Moments later, she said, Daigre displayed a gun and fired.
Police said Daigre shot at the car more than once and paused before firing more rounds. Neighbors reported hearing more than a dozen gunshots. Investigators found a bullet in the front passenger seat, where the 13-year-old had been riding, and another bullet lodged in the rear of the vehicle. No one was struck.
Police said Daigre later admitted firing at the vehicle twice. Asked why he did not call officers instead, he allegedly said he “had a lot going on.” Records reviewed in the report showed no Texas criminal history for Daigre. Neighbors said he had complained before about drivers turning around in his driveway and had used trash cans to block access.
The grandmother said the girl remained shaken by the shooting. “She’s gonna be traumatized for a long time,” she said. She also said a homeowner’s anger over a driveway did not excuse firing at a car with a child inside. Police did not report whether any weapon was recovered or whether additional evidence was being tested.
Daigre was held in the Fort Bend County Jail on an $80,000 bond. The charges accuse him of aggravated assault, a felony that can move forward through court as police and prosecutors review witness statements, the damaged car and the homeowner’s alleged admission.
No injuries were reported in the shooting. As of Sunday, April 26, the next public step in the case was expected to come through Fort Bend County court records or further police updates.
