Investigators believe another person entered or was inside the South Side home before fleeing after the fatal shooting.
HOUSTON — Police searched Monday for the person responsible for fatally shooting two roommates inside a home on Houston’s South Side early Sunday, an attack investigators described as isolated.
Officers responded about 2:20 a.m. Sunday to the 12800 block of Glen Hollow Drive. A man and a woman were found dead from gunshot wounds inside the residence, according to the Houston Police Department. Authorities had not released their names as of Monday.
Police said the victims lived at the home as roommates. The homeowner, who was away when the shooting occurred, returned to the residence, discovered them and called 911, HPD Homicide Detective Cory Sharp said.
“They got out here and met with the people who called 911, that advised that two of their roommates had been shot and killed by unknown persons in their home here,” Sharp said.
Detectives do not believe the victims shot each other. Police said no weapons were found inside the home, leading investigators to believe at least one other person was involved and left before officers arrived. No description of a possible shooter had been released.
Investigators spent several hours processing the residence Sunday. Crime scene personnel collected evidence while homicide detectives interviewed the homeowner and others who may have information about what happened before the shooting.
Several security cameras were visible outside the home. Police said investigators were working to obtain and review video that could show people or vehicles approaching or leaving the property around the time of the shooting.
Police had not determined a motive. Asked whether illegal activity could have played a role, Sharp said detectives did not have enough evidence to reach that conclusion.
“We can’t be for certain that that’s what caused this incident, or that was a factor in it, but it might have been,” Sharp said.
Investigators said the shooting appeared to be an isolated event and that they had found no evidence of an ongoing danger to the surrounding community. The investigation remained active Monday, with no arrest or suspect identification announced.
