Allegations brought forward by the prosecution suggest that Deontray Flanagan abducted Zevaya from her daycare center, instigated an attack on her mother at her workplace, and eventually strangled the toddler while her mother and grandfather were forced to watch via FaceTime.
The ordeal began when Flanagan allegedly confronted Zevaya’s mother, Kairsten Watson, at the Walmart where she worked, assaulted her, and snatched her phone before fleeing with their daughter. During the ensuing police pursuit, Harris County Sheriff’s deputies tried unsuccessfully to stop Flanagan’s car, which reportedly was weaving through traffic at high speeds.
