Jerusalem, Israel – The father of an Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldier has revealed the horrifying ordeal of finding out that Hamas terrorists tried to sell his son’s head for $10,000 after he was killed in an attack. David Tahar, the father of the deceased soldier, has spoken out about the harrowing experience of trying to locate his son’s remains, shedding light on the barbaric nature of the attack. He detailed the efforts to find his son’s head after the IDF recovered his body, expressing the need for closure and the trauma of discovering his son’s brutal treatment.
Cpl. Adir Tahar, 19, was killed by Hamas militants with an anti-tank missile after bravely assisting his comrades during the attack. The devastating impact on his unit, the Golani Brigade, was compounded by the terrorists decapitating Adir Tahar. David Tahar described the pain of seeing his son’s body abused, and the difficulty of burying him without his head.
The anguish of not knowing the fate of his son’s head continued until Israeli forces learned from captured Hamas terrorists about the attempted sale and its potential location. Subsequently, an elite unit deployed to central Gaza found Adir Tahar’s head in a bag inside a freezer in Palestine Square. DNA and dental records confirmed its identity and it was returned to Israel.
Amid the tragedy, David Tahar celebrated the memory of his son, describing Adir as a talented, caring individual who sought to bring unity and goodness into the world. He emphasized the need for awareness of the threats Israel faces from extremist groups while urging the world to confront the violence perpetuated by those “who hate life and sanctify death.”
