INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana – A deadly shooting on the city’s northeast side has left one person dead, marking the latest in a series of violent incidents that have occurred in Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is currently investigating the shooting, which took place late Tuesday night. Officers responded to reports of a person being shot and found the victim in the roadway, with fatal gunshot wounds. The police have confirmed the death of the victim.
IMPD Capt. Mark McCardia has urged anyone with information about the deadly shooting to come forward, emphasizing the need for community cooperation in solving the case. This comes in the wake of a recent surge in violence, marking the fourth shooting that IMPD has been called to investigate in a single day.
McCardia stated, “Somebody knows something. We really need someone’s help to call homicide or crime stoppers.” The series of violent incidents has puzzled law enforcement, with McCardia expressing frustration and stating, “I have no real explanation for why it has been so violent tonight. There are no excuses for it.”
Prior to the deadly shooting, officers were called to three separate shooting incidents, resulting in a total of seven people being shot. The first incident, occurring at the 5200 block of E. 32nd Street, resulted in the death of one woman. About three hours later, officers responded to another shooting on the 500 block of W. 43 Street, where they found a person critically injured. Lastly, a shooting at VASA Fitness on the west side of the city led to an adult and a juvenile sustaining gunshot wounds.
This is a developing story and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
