Columbus, Ohio – An 18-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, faces serious charges related to a shooting that resulted in the deaths of two individuals at Krumm Park. Tyrez Turner has been indicted for two counts of aggravated murder and four counts of murder in connection with the deaths of 18-year-old Jakwaun Kimbro and 29-year-old Lonnie Johnston. Additionally, Turner is confronting six other felonies in this case, including tampering with evidence and illegally having weapons. Turner was taken into custody a week later on unrelated felony charges.
Law enforcement officers from the Columbus Division of Police responded to a shooting incident at Krumm Park on the city’s east side on the night of June 3, where Kimbro and Johnston lost their lives. Earlier that same evening, a vigil was held at the park in memory of 18-year-old Da’Mya Cummerlander, who was fatally shot during a graduation party the previous day on Woodsedge Road. Authorities are investigating a possible connection between the shootings at Krumm Park and the vigil held for Cummerlander.
In a related case, 20-year-old Kenneth Hairston has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of Da’Mya Cummerlander.
