Norfolk, UK – An inquest has been initiated to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Peter Pocket, a resident of Hemsby, whose life came to a close last month. The preliminary session of the inquest was presided over by area coroner Samantha Goward at Norfolk Coroners’ Court.
Peter Pocket, who was 68 at the time of his passing, spent his earlier years in Zimbabwe where he was born on December 9, 1955. Before retiring, he led an adventurous career as a safari tour guide, acquainting tourists with the wild terrains and diverse wildlife of Africa.
The affectionate memories of Peter were echoed in an online tribute posted by his spouse, Jill Pocket. She expressed her deep sorrow and reminisced about Peter’s constant positivity and support. “Miss you always. Always a smile on your face, no matter what. You were my rock. Always there for me. God bless. Life will never be the same. Miss you so very much,” Jill wrote, highlighting the profound impact Peter had on her life.
According to the testimony provided in court, Peter’s health declined leading to his admission to James Paget Hospital in August 2024. His condition necessitated transfers between healthcare facilities, including a stint at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, before he was eventually returned to James Paget Hospital on September 27.
Peter Pocket succumbed to multiple organ failure on October 9, in the Gorleston-based hospital, marking a somber conclusion to his battle with illness. The specific medical circumstances preceding his death have raised questions that the upcoming full inquest aims to address.
Scheduled to take place later this year, this comprehensive examination will seek to provide clarity on the sequence of events that led to the multiple organ failures and ultimately, Peter’s untimely demise.
As loved ones await further insights from the inquest, they continue to cherish the memory of Pocket, who touched many lives with his zest for life and unwavering kindness. The community and family hope that the inquest will bring some closure to their loss and shed light on the medical processes associated with his last days.
