Cardiff, Wales — An inquest has commenced regarding the tragic death of 32-year-old Nirodha Niwunhella, who was tragically found deceased near two parked cars. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, which has drawn significant public interest.
Niwunhella was discovered on August 21 after a member of the community alerted the police about a woman in distress. Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after and pronounced her dead at 7:50 AM. Initial reports indicate that she suffered multiple sharp force injuries, leading to the arrest of a suspect, Thisara Weragalage, 37, who has since been charged with her murder.
During the inquest hearing at Pontypridd Coroners’ Court on August 29, it was revealed that Niwunhella was identified by a close friend. The examination, conducted at the University Hospital of Wales, confirmed the cause of death as multiple sharp force injuries, raising concerns about the potential for foul play. Area coroner Patricia Morgan noted that preliminary findings indicated the death could be classified as “violent or unnatural.” The inquest was formally opened and adjourned until criminal proceedings are resolved.
Niwunhella, a native of Sri Lanka and a resident of Romilly Road in Canton, was remembered fondly by her family and friends. They released a heartfelt tribute, describing her as a cherished daughter and a dear friend whose kindness and warmth had a lasting impact on many lives.
