Ludhiana, India — A serious incident involving a private bus operator has left one man hospitalized with significant injuries, prompting police to launch an investigation into the matter. The alleged assault reportedly stemmed from a dispute over transportation arrangements concerning a group traveling from Delhi to Jammu.
The confrontation occurred on April 30 outside the Dhyan Singh Complex, situated near the Ludhiana bus station. Chamail Singh, a resident of Thakrakote in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, was among approximately 20 family members who had hired a bus from Arman Travels, a transportation service based in Delhi.
According to Assistant Sub-Inspector Kashmir Singh of the Division Number 5 police station, the bus driver halted in Ludhiana around 9 p.m. and instructed passengers to transfer to another vehicle. While he assured them that a replacement bus would arrive, no vehicle materialized, leading to growing frustrations among the passengers.
The situation quickly escalated when the promised replacement failed to appear even after an hour, resulting in an argument that turned physical, according to police reports. During the altercation, Chamail Singh sustained a severe head injury, prompting concern for his wellbeing.
Initially hesitant about reporting the incident, Singh eventually filed a complaint after returning to Jammu. The local Reasi police took action by submitting a first information report that was later forwarded to Ludhiana authorities for further processing under relevant jurisdictional protocols.
Law enforcement officials have charged the bus operator’s staff under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which includes provisions relating to attempted murder, voluntary harm, and rioting. The FIR currently identifies the accused as unknown individuals, as police continue to work on recognizing and apprehending them.
