Judge Ali Bappa Denies Involvement in Land Dispute and Alleged Assault on Businessman Alhaji Umaru Garba Alahsule

JALINGO, Nigeria — A prominent judge in Taraba State has firmly refuted allegations linking him and his family to land disputes and a violent altercation involving a local businessman. Justice Ali Bappa, of the Taraba State High Court, addressed the media recently, denying any involvement in the claims made by Alhaji Umaru Garba Alahsule, who has accused him of attempting to seize vital property.

Justice Bappa explained that while his family does hold land in the area, he has never authorized any actions that would lead to violence or property destruction. “I am a judge, and I am committed to resolving conflicts through lawful means, not aggression,” he asserted in a statement.

The conflict erupted when Alahsule alleged that Justice Bappa and his relatives targeted his plots of land near key government offices in Jalingo. Among the accusations is a claim that Zaran Bappa, a relative of the judge, physically assaulted Alahsule and damaged his vehicle during an encounter at his office. Alahsule also reported that he received threats against his life should he attempt to reclaim his property.

Adding to the controversy, Alahsule claims that Zaran Bappa invaded his land, destroyed a fence, and marked the area as “Alhajuj Bapa Family Land.” Alahsule responded by providing documentation, including fencing permits and land registration documents, to substantiate his claim to the property, which he alleges he has developed over the course of seven years. “I have taken all the necessary steps with the Urban Planning authorities,” he said. “After significant investment, I now face aggressive attempts to take what is rightfully mine.”

Given the escalating tensions, Alahsule has called for intervention from state and federal authorities, citing serious concerns for his safety and the integrity of his property. He urged local law enforcement and relevant agencies to take immediate action to address the threats he has faced.

The Taraba State Police Command has acknowledged the situation, with acting Public Relations Officer Lashen James confirming that authorities are actively investigating the claims made by both parties involved. The outcome of this inquiry could have serious implications for the individuals and the larger community, as public interest in the case continues to grow.

Community members are watching closely, as the dispute highlights broader tensions over land ownership and legal rights in the region. Local observers stress the importance of resolving such conflicts through judicial means, rather than resorting to violence, to maintain peace and order in Taraba State.
