KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A Kansas man, wrongfully implicated last year in a shooting at a Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory rally, has passed away, confirmed by his lawyer. Denton Loudermill Jr., 49, of Olathe, died under undisclosed circumstances, his attorney LaRonna Lassiter Saunders stated in a press release Friday. Saunders emphasized the family’s request for privacy as they deal with their profound loss.
Loudermill found himself mistakenly detained during the mayhem that ensued on Feb. 14, 2024, after a gunman killed a well-known local DJ and wounded over 20 people, including several children, outside Union Station in Kansas City. Despite being handcuffed and questioned at the scene, he was never formally charged with any crime.
The incident, which resulted from an altercation among two groups, drew broad media coverage. During this period, images of Loudermill, a longtime car wash employee, were wrongly circulated on social networks labeling him as an “illegal alien” and a “shooter,” despite his innocence. This false identification led to multiple lawsuits filed by Loudermill against public figures who had shared these erroneous claims online.
His legal battles centered around suing three Republican Missouri state senators and a congressman from Tennessee who disseminated the misleading posts. However, his lawsuits faltered due to jurisdictional issues, ultimately all being dismissed.

His attorney expressed the turmoil he faced, stating, “Mr. Loudermill spent his final days burdened with stress and chasing down a lie that went viral due to the careless and heartless actions of a Congressman, Missouri senators, and social media influencers, who couldn’t be bothered to verify the truth before destroying a man’s life.”
