Kent Man Faces Serious Charges After Violent Assault and Kidnapping Attempt Near Local Veterinary Hospital

Kent, WA — Troy Walton, a 26-year-old Kent resident, is facing multiple felony charges following a horrifying attack on a woman earlier in September. The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday that Walton has been charged with first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree rape, second-degree assault with sexual motivation, and indecent liberties.

The assault occurred on the morning of September 15 near Central Avenue in Kent, where Walton allegedly ambushed a 29-year-old woman as she walked past the McMonigal Veterinary Hospital. Charging documents reveal that he is accused of dragging her into bushes, strangling her until she lost consciousness, and subsequently attempting to sexually assault her.

The victim regained consciousness during the assault and managed to escape after fighting back and biting Walton. She sought treatment at Harborview Medical Center and was later released.

Efforts by the Kent Police Department to apprehend Walton included canvassing the area and reviewing surveillance footage, which eventually led to his identification. He was arrested the following day while wearing the same clothes he had on during the attack. During his interview with detectives, Walton confessed to the assault and admitted he intended to rape the victim.

In light of his recent arrest, Walton’s bail has been set at $750,000. Prosecutors emphasized his potential danger to the community, noting his recent conviction for another sexual assault just one month prior. Furthermore, Walton is currently on probation for a separate incident of fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation.

The case stirs renewed concern about repeat offenders in the community and the effectiveness of the judicial system in preventing such violent crimes. Local dialogue among community leaders and residents has focused on ensuring the safety and security of individuals, particularly in less frequented areas of the city.

This incident has prompted discussions regarding the enhancement of security measures, including improved surveillance and increased police patrols in various neighborhoods. Community safety activists are urging residents to be more vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to prevent further incidents.

As this case continues to unfold, the community remains alert and hopeful that justice will be promptly served, providing some measure of relief and security to the affected individuals and the broader Kent area.
