Kent, WA — A local woman narrowly escaped a harrowing assault last Sunday morning, which has led to serious charges against a 26-year-old man from Kent. The incident, which occurred in broad daylight on a busy street, has rocked the suburban community.
Troy Stanley Walton faces charges of first-degree kidnapping, attempted first-degree rape, second-degree assault with sexual motivation, and indecent liberties, as announced by King County prosecutors. These charges stem from an aggressive attack on a 29-year-old woman who did not know Walton prior to the incident.
This violent confrontation took place around 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 15 along Central Avenue North, an area known for its proximity to Kent Memorial Park. According to authorities, Walton pursued the woman, attacked her from behind, and forcibly moved her into the bushes.
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Mylla Dawson described the struggle in the charging documents, noting the victim’s desperate fight as Walton tried to undress her while repeatedly striking her in the face. Despite the blows, she managed to resist Walton’s advances, compelling him to attempt strangulation until she lost consciousness.
Regaining consciousness to Walton’s groping, the woman used the last of her strength to bite his hand, an act that allowed her to break free and escape. She was later treated for her injuries at Harborview Medical Center and then released.
Following the attack, Kent Police swiftly acted on surveillance footages from nearby businesses, obtaining clear images of the suspect. These images were crucial in identifying Walton, who was apprehended two days later near the Kent Transit Center, still wearing the same clothes from the day of the incident.
During a subsequent police interview, Walton reportedly confessed to the attack, displaying no remorse when questioned about his actions. This chilling indifference has added an unsettling layer to the already distressful circumstances surrounding the event.
Walton’s arrest record notes a recent conviction in a similar case where he assaulted a stranger earlier in the year. This pattern of behavior highlights concerning trends in his actions towards women, raising alarms about community safety and the need for stringent legal measures.
As Walton awaits his arraignment on Oct. 3 at the Maleng Regional Justice Center, the community remains tense. This case has not only brought to light the urgent issues of public safety and the protection of vulnerable populations but also the broader societal challenges in addressing and preventing such brutal acts of violence.
Citizens are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, as community cooperation is essential in preventing future incidents and ensuring a safe environment for all residents. Meanwhile, the Kent police department continues to investigate the case, reinforcing their commitment to public safety and justice.
