Kentucky Man Indicted in Federal Case Tied to Multiple Overdose Deaths, Facing Life Sentence as Searches Continue

WINCHESTER, Ky. — A man from Powell County faces serious federal charges linked to multiple fatal overdoses, including one that occurred at an Airbnb earlier this year. Brian Phillip Epperson, 44, was indicted by a grand jury in Lexington on two counts of distributing methamphetamine that allegedly resulted in death. Each count carries a potential life sentence.

Epperson is already in custody following state charges related to the death of 32-year-old Kristen Morris, whose body was discovered in Stanton in May. Investigators have suggested that Morris died from an overdose. Epperson was arraigned on state charges, which include murder, possession of methamphetamine, and tampering with physical evidence, in September.

Authorities indicate that the federal charges stem from an ongoing investigation that was prompted by the overdose death of Reacheal Dawson, found dead at the Red Roof Inn in Winchester on June 27. According to police, Epperson is also being investigated for a separate overdose case from November 2024 involving a woman in Lexington. The Kentucky State Police continues to look into this incident.

The indictments reflect a broader initiative among law enforcement agencies to address the rising concerns over overdose deaths in the region. Methamphetamine has become a significant factor in Kentucky’s drug crisis, and Epperson’s case has drawn attention due to its connection to multiple fatalities.

Epperson is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center before being transferred to federal custody. Law enforcement officials emphasize the importance of tackling the rampant drug issues contributing to these tragedies, aiming to bring accountability to individuals involved in the distribution of dangerous substances.
