Rudrapur, India – Late on Tuesday night, law enforcement officials in Gadarpur, Udham Singh Nagar captured Swarn Singh, the key suspect in a violent altercation involving a forest department patrol earlier this month. Singh, who also goes by Sonu and Chikna, was apprehended following his involvement in an armed ambush that left a forest ranger and other personnel wounded.
The incident, which occurred on September 6 in the Peepal Parao Forest, resulted from an unforeseen attack by a group of armed individuals, including Singh. During the confrontation, forest ranger Roop Narayan Gautam and additional team members sustained injuries as the group reportedly fired indiscriminately at the officials.
In response to the attack, a complaint was lodged by Gautam, prompting the Gadarpur police to initiate investigations under multiple sections of the BNS and the Forest Protection Act. The initial investigations named several other suspects, including Sangat Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Sarvjit Singh, Sandeep, and Kuldeep Singh.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Manikant Mishra, orchestrated a rapid response, directing the Special Operations Group (SOG) alongside local police to prioritize the arrests related to this case. Before the capture of Swarn Singh, authorities had already managed to detain Gurmeet Singh on September 9 and Sarvjit Singh on September 12.
In the aftermath of Swarn Singh’s arrest, Mishra remarked on the ongoing judicial processes, noting that further legal proceedings are in motion and the accused will be presented before the court imminently. This statement underscores the department’s commitment to addressing this violent incident efficiently and upholding legal protocols.
