Kyle Man Sentenced to 65 Years for Violent Domestic Assault in Front of Children, Highlighting Fight Against Domestic Violence

KYLE, Texas — A man was sentenced to 65 years in prison following his conviction for aggravated assault, a decision underscoring the serious consequences of domestic violence. Andy Wayne Carty was found guilty during a trial that revealed a disturbing pattern of violent behavior against his girlfriend, witnessed by their children.

The jury’s verdict, announced by Hays County officials, included multiple charges against Carty. These encompassed continuous family violence, assault by impeding breath or circulation, and breaching a protective order. Alongside the lengthy prison term for assault, the jury imposed five-year sentences on the lesser charges, which will be served concurrently.

Carty must serve a minimum of 30 years before he becomes eligible for parole related to the aggravated assault charge. Prosecutor Claudia Garcia highlighted that the jury’s decision serves both to hold Carty accountable and to send a message about the serious repercussions associated with domestic violence.

During the trial, prosecutors laid out events from early 2023 that demonstrated a troubling escalation of violence. In one instance, a heated argument turned physical, resulting in visible injuries to his girlfriend as he shoved her into a wall in front of their daughters. The children attempted to seek help by calling 911, but Carty intervened, taking the phone away.

Weeks later, in a more alarming episode, Carty broke into the home at dawn while the family was asleep. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that he had concealed devices intended for emergency calls before confronting the woman in their bedroom. The situation rapidly escalated as he attacked her while their child lay nearby.

The violent confrontation lasted several minutes, with the victim putting up a struggle to protect her children. Throughout the ordeal, the children were desperately trying to pull their father away from their mother. Ultimately, they managed to escape to a neighbor’s house, prompting the mother to pursue them after breaking free.

When police and a SWAT team arrived, Carty fled the scene but was apprehended hours later following a brief search. Jon English, another prosecutor on the case, praised the courage of the victim and her children’s bravery, noting the critical role played by the Kyle Police Department in addressing domestic violence.

The trial, presided over by Judge Joe Pool, lasted two weeks, beginning on February 3. This case serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing fight against domestic abuse and the importance of seeking justice for victims.
