Accra, Ghana – Tensions have flared in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region after a violent land dispute resulted in injuries to six individuals. The incident, which unfolded on the outskirts of the Domeabra community beginning on Tuesday night, saw escalating hostilities between the residents of Danchira and Domeabra.
The clash initiated with gunfire, as reported, and several people were hurt during the initial outbreak of violence. These individuals received emergency medical attention at a nearby health clinic before some were transported to larger facilities, including the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and the University of Ghana Medical Centre, for further treatment.
Compounding the chaos, a subsequent counterattack the next day involved machete assaults that left four more people wounded. Local authorities assert that this second wave of violence began in retaliation to the previous night’s events.
Amidst these developments, Francis Boateng, the Development Chief of Domeabra, shared insights into the origins of this conflict. According to Boateng, the trouble started when a work crew was assaulted by a group from Danchira led by an individual known as Ashaley. This attacker, Boateng claims, later escalated the violence by returning with an armed contingent that fired indiscriminately at those present on the disputed land.
Amid concerns of further escalation, Chief Boateng has called for a thorough and unbiased investigation by the police into these incidents. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, he urged immediate intervention to prevent any further deterioration of peace.
In response to these urgent requests for stability, Superintendent Eric Amponsah of the Weija Divisional Police Command has initiated patrols in both communities involved. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to restore order and assess the underlying issues contributing to the frequent disputes over land in the region.
