AUSTIN, Texas – Accused serial killer Raul Meza Jr. is currently in the Travis County Jail after confessing to the 2019 murder of Gloria Elizabeth Lofton and the 2023 murder of Jesse Fraga. Former Austin police Sgt. Bruce Mills expressed concern over justice not being served in the case.
The arrest came after Meza confessed to the murders over the phone to the Austin police, leading to his apprehension on May 29, 2023. During his arrest, Meza was found in possession of a cell phone, prompting the police to seek his Google data from November 1, 2016, through May 29, 2023.
Authorities are investigating whether Meza may be connected to a cold case homicide from 2018. They are also exploring the possibility of Meza’s involvement in additional sexual assaults and murders following his supervised release in 2016.
Raul Meza Jr.’s initial court appearance took place on November 20, following his indictment by a grand jury for the murders of Gloria Elizabeth Lofton and Jesse Fraga. The investigation is also focusing on claims made by Meza regarding the shooting of two individuals in San Antonio from late 2018 to early 2019.
With the Google data, the Austin Police Department hopes to corroborate Meza’s connections to the aforementioned murders and assaults. The search warrant filed in January revealed police interests in establishing solid evidence linking Meza to these cases, as well as any additional cold case homicides.
