Kenyon, Minnesota — A local man faces serious charges in connection with a tragic wrong-way crash that resulted in two fatalities in Dakota County last month. Seth John Nechville, 36, has been charged with two counts of third-degree murder and a single count of second-degree driving while intoxicated.
The fatal collision occurred on September 6 around 11 a.m. on Highway 56. Authorities reported that officers arrived to a chaotic scene, discovering an SUV engulfed in flames and a Dodge Ram pickup severely damaged. Good Samaritans had already attempted to rescue the occupants of the SUV, but despite immediate life-saving interventions, both individuals succumbed to their injuries at the site of the crash.
Nechville, who was driving the Ram, was found in the southbound lane, indicating he had been traveling the wrong way. Prior to the accident, dispatchers had received complaints about the Ram’s erratic driving, noting it was moving northbound in the southbound lane. Witnesses reported having to swerve off the road to avoid a head-on collision with Nechville’s vehicle.
Upon speaking with Nechville, law enforcement officers detected the strong scent of alcohol and observed that his eyes appeared bloodshot and watery. Subsequent testing revealed that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.102, taken approximately two hours after the incident, indicating a significant level of intoxication.
A 911 call made just before the crash reported a similar encounter with a driver who was forced to pull over to avoid the approaching Ram. This incident occurred over half a mile from the site of the fatal collision, further illustrating the dangerous conditions created by Nechville’s driving behavior.
Nechville is scheduled for an omnibus hearing on February 19, 2026, at 9 a.m. As the judicial process advances, the community grapples with the devastating impacts of impaired driving and the loss of life resulting from such reckless actions.
