Abuja, Nigeria — A recent traffic incident at Karu Bridge in the Federal Capital Territory resulted in injuries to three individuals but notably no fatalities, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
The collision, which involved six vehicles, occurred around 3 p.m. on a busy route leading to Aya-Nyanya. Olusegun Ogungbemide, the Corps Public Education Officer, provided details, indicating that the involved vehicles ranged from a Dangote truck to a commercial bus, a Peugeot car, and even a motorcycle.
Ogungbemide explained that a total of 35 people were part of the incident, including 30 males and five females. The injuries sustained by the three injured individuals varied, with some suffering from head trauma and fractures. Fortunately, emergency services promptly evacuated the injured parties to Asokoro and Nyanya General Hospitals for necessary medical attention.
The FRSC attributed the crash to a loss of control, exacerbated by insufficient road signage near active construction sites managed by a Chinese firm. Ogungbemide emphasized the need for construction companies to ensure proper signage and signals at such sites to mitigate risks of similar accidents.
Officers from the FRSC and the local police worked together to manage the situation, coordinating rescue efforts, clearing debris, and facilitating traffic flow in the area. The damaged vehicles, including the Dangote truck and others involved in the crash, were secured by the Karu Police Division for further investigation.
In light of this incident, officials have reiterated the significance of road safety measures, particularly in construction zones, urging both workers and drivers alike to remain vigilant and adhere to safety protocols.
