HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A Richmond man accused of shooting a Henrico police officer after an attempted armed robbery appeared in court today with a jury trial set for later this year.
Michael Allendor Byrd, 23, is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, entering a dwelling with intent to commit robbery and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
On Wednesday, Nov. 29, at around 7:40 p.m., officers responded to a reported attempted robbery in the area of Williamsburg Road and Brittles Lane.
According to police, Byrd allegedly entered a business and demanded money while displaying a firearm. Additionally, Byrd was accused of abducting an employee and attempting to rob another employee, but the abduction charges have since been dropped.
During the incident, officers reportedly identified Byrd before he fled the scene. Byrd allegedly fired shots at the officers as they pursued him, causing serious injuries to one of the officers.
The injured officer was later released from the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Byrd is scheduled for a five-day jury trial beginning on July 22, 2024, in Henrico Circuit Court.
