Man Charged in Death of Woman with Walker

NEW YORK, NY – An 18-year-old is facing serious charges after the fatal shooting of a 69-year-old woman in East Harlem. The suspect, now in federal custody, is scheduled to appear in court to address federal gun possession charges.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Faisal McCants, who was seen with his head lowered as detectives led him to a vehicle for transfer to federal custody. The bullet that killed Robin Wright was fired from a gun capable of rapid firing, according to officials.

McCants is charged federally with possessing and using a machine gun. He also faces murder charges from local police, which could lead to a life sentence if convicted. Investigators say McCants was part of a trio attempting to rob a drug dealer, resulting in a chaotic exchange of gunfire.

Wright was tragically caught in the crossfire while she was on her way home, using a walker. Her untimely death has left her community mourning a woman remembered for her kindness and care.

Local leaders and candidates have visited East Harlem to address the community’s anger over the persistent gun violence affecting innocent residents. Many neighbors, including those who knew Wright, gathered at the police station to witness the suspect being held accountable.

“She was a beautiful person,” a friend of Wright said, hoping for justice and peace. According to sources, McCants has a criminal background and was detained when he checked in with his probation officer.

The suspect faces charges related to murder, robbery, and weapons, with an initial court appearance in federal court. Meanwhile, the search continues for another suspect involved in the robbery-turned-shooting.
