WEST CONSHOHOCKEN, PA – A neighborhood known for its peace was thrown into turmoil Sunday morning after the fatal shooting of a young woman, allegedly at the hands of her boyfriend. The victim, Alyssa Rose Weast, 25, was found on the sidewalk near her home, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that Alyssa fled her residence after being shot but succumbed to her injuries despite emergency medical treatment at Lankenau Hospital. Her boyfriend, Michael Duke, 26, turned himself in to authorities and now faces serious charges, including first and third-degree murder.
Alyssa’s family released a heartfelt statement, remembering her as a person full of life and kindness, who had a bright future ahead. Her untimely death has left a void in the lives of those who knew her, as they struggle to come to terms with such a senseless act.
Alyssa, a microbiologist and University of Delaware alumna, was admired by friends and family alike. Her sister, unable to speak publicly, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her vibrant sibling.
Police reports indicate that Alyssa was shot inside her home before she managed to reach the sidewalk. Investigators found a trail of blood leading from her house, and they suspect a gun Alyssa purchased in 2020 may have been used in the crime. Michael Duke, who was not registered to own a firearm, was seen by neighbors near his truck immediately following the incident.
Duke’s mother contacted law enforcement, stating her son was in shock and intended to surrender, which he did the following day. He is currently being held without bail, with a court appearance scheduled for next Tuesday.
The case underscores the tragic consequences of domestic violence, leaving a community in mourning and a family searching for comfort amidst their loss.
