Police said the unidentified victim may have gone to the complex to confront someone before the shooting.
HOUSTON, Texas — A man believed to be in his 60s was found fatally shot early Sunday outside a northwest Houston apartment complex, prompting a homicide investigation with no publicly identified suspect.
Houston police responded to a report of gunfire at about 1:20 a.m. Sunday at the Oakwood Gardens apartments in the 5600 block of Antoine Drive. Officers found the man lying on the ground in an outdoor area of the complex, police said. He had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said the victim appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds to his head and chest. His name had not been released as of Monday, and authorities had not said whether relatives had been notified. Police also had not provided a more precise age.
Police believe the man walked to the apartment property before the shooting. Investigators told ABC13 that he may have gone there to confront someone, though they did not release details about the suspected dispute or explain what evidence led them to that theory.
No suspect description was available in the initial reports. Police also had not announced an arrest, identified a possible motive or said whether a weapon had been recovered. It was not clear whether investigators had located witnesses or surveillance video from the complex.
The available information indicates that officers were called after someone reported hearing shots rather than after a caller reported seeing the attack. Authorities have not disclosed who contacted police or how much time may have passed between the shooting and the officers’ arrival.
The investigation remains with the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division. Detectives are working to determine whom the victim intended to meet, what happened after he reached the property and who fired the shots.
Police have asked anyone with information about the killing to contact the Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
