Man Killed in Late-Night Stabbing Near Brooklyn Train Station

Police said no arrests had been made after the overnight attack near Fulton Street.

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A man believed to be in his 40s was stabbed to death early Wednesday near the Van Siclen Avenue subway station in Cypress Hills, police said.

The stabbing happened just before 1 a.m. on Fulton Street, near the elevated subway stop. Police said the man was found with stab wounds to his chest and back. Emergency medical workers took him to Brookdale Hospital, where he later died.

Investigators had not released the man’s name by Wednesday evening. Police also had not said what led to the stabbing or whether the victim and attacker knew each other. No suspect description had been made public, and no arrests had been announced.

By sunrise, police tape still marked off part of the block as detectives searched for evidence. The area sits near the Van Siclen Avenue station, a busy stop in eastern Brooklyn where Fulton Street runs below the elevated tracks.

Neighbors told News 12 the man appeared to be known in the area. Longtime neighbor Xavier Asqui said the death shocked people who saw the man often. “I know the kid, he say hi to my mom and my pops every day,” Asqui said. “The way I know him he’s very respectful so it’s kind of shocking to hear that.”

The case remained under investigation Wednesday. Police were still working to identify the victim, determine a motive and find the person responsible.
