Man Slain for Refusing Bribe in Daughter’s Assault Case

FERGUSON, MO – Three family members have been charged in the murder of Corey Warren, a Ferguson man who was killed after refusing to drop charges in a sexual assault case involving his daughter. The suspects, accused of orchestrating Warren’s death, allegedly aimed to silence him permanently.

Prosecutors announced the indictments outside the Ferguson Police Department, as Warren’s family and friends continue to grapple with the tragedy. Warren, described by his best friend as an exemplary father, had been steadfast in seeking justice for his daughter, refusing a $12,000 bribe to stay silent.

According to police, Warren was shot through the glass door of his home on July 8. The visible damage remains a haunting reminder of the crime that shook the community. Ferguson Police Chief Troy Doyle characterized the murder as calculated and personal, marking it as one of the year’s most senseless acts of violence in the region.

The accused include Lavore Harman, his uncle Anthony L. Young, and cousin Anthony D. Young. They are alleged to have coordinated the attack with an associate, Andrew Klaus, who was also shot and killed later that day. The charges include two counts of first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and other felonies.

Neighbors recall hearing gunshots and witnessing the suspects flee the scene. Hugh Deberley, a neighbor, described the chaos and heartbreak of that day, emphasizing the impact on Warren’s children who were present during the incident.

Warren was known in his community as a dedicated father and friend. Neighbors expressed their sorrow, stating that a man committed to doing the right thing lost his life unjustly, and those responsible should face justice.

While the case is not currently classified as a murder-for-hire plot, prosecutors indicated that this could change if new evidence emerges. Harman is being held on a $2 million bond in St. Louis County, while the Youngs remain in federal custody under the same bond conditions.
