HOUSTON, Texas — University of Houston police are searching for a man accused of threatening a woman with a machete during an April 6 dispute over a parking space on campus, according to court records.
The case centers on a confrontation that police said began while the woman sat in her car during a visit to a relative who attends the university. Investigators said the suspect, identified in court records as Ricky Greer, faces an aggravated assault charge.
Police said the confrontation happened about 9 p.m. in a University of Houston parking lot. The woman told investigators she was in a parking space when a man got out of another vehicle, waved a machete and yelled at her to move. The woman left the spot, and police said the man took it before leaving the area.
Investigators later called the man back to the parking lot, where the woman identified him. A witness told police the man claimed during the confrontation that he worked for the university. A university source later confirmed Greer worked there, though the school had not confirmed his current employment status.
Court records say the woman told investigators she did not want to press charges because she feared retaliation against her relative, who is a university student. Police still pursued the case, and a warrant was issued for Greer’s arrest on a charge of aggravated assault.
The reported use of a machete raised the case from a parking dispute to a felony-level allegation. No injury was reported in the account released through court records, and officials have not said whether the weapon was recovered.
Nearly a month after the incident, Greer had not been arrested. Police have not released more details about where he may be or whether he remains connected to the university.
